Great Trek!

Get ready for an unforgettable mountain biking experience at the Nieuwoudtville Great Trek, taking place in the
breathtaking landscapes of Nieuwoudtville, Northern Cape. From the 26th to the 28th of April 2024, cycling
enthusiasts will embark on a thrilling 3-day stage race covering a challenging yet exhilarating 100 miles (160km).
Participants will be treated to an array of stunning views and diverse terrain, including thrilling single tracks,
scenic jeep tracks, and rugged gravel roads. The route promises to test riders' skills and endurance while
showcasing the natural beauty of the Northern Cape.

One of the highlights of the Nieuwoudtville Great Trek is the opportunity to witness the region's beautiful autumn
flowers. As the race takes place in late April, participants will have the chance to ride through fields of vibrant
blooms, adding a splash of coluor to the rugged landscape. The route also passes through the Great Knersvlakte,
a unique and captivating landscape known for its fascinating geological formations and sparse vegetation. Riders
will have the chance to experience the raw beauty of this area, making for a truly memorable and awe-inspiring
ride. But the Nieuwoudtville Great Trek is more than just a race -it's an adventure. Riders will immerse themselves
in the rich landscapes and culture of the region, discovering hidden gems and experiencing the warm hospitality
of the local communities.


After a challenging day on the trails, participants can look forward to the great local hospitality. Enjoy delicious
meals prepared with local ingredients and relax in the welcoming atmosphere of Nieuwoudtville. On Saturday
night, riders and spectators alike can unwind and enjoy a live show by renowned South African artist Jakie Louw.
The perfect way to end a day of thrilling racing and exploration. For extra entertainment, you are welcome to join
us at the Blou Huis guesthouse for a performance by Frank Opperman on Sunday, 28 April.
Please take note that this event will be family friendly and there will be entertainment for the kiddies as well. The
botanical gardens will be offering a fantastic kids entertainment program with slip & slide, jumping castles,
guided kids ride, child minders and snack packs.

Stage 1


Friday 26 April, 17:30
Distance: 20km
This beautiful first stage takes riders on beautiful sunset ride overlooking the vast Knersvlakte.


Stage 2


Saturday 27 April, 08:00
Distance: 45km, 100km
This stage will also double as the open day for participants looking to take part in only one of the days during
the Great Trek event. Riders can look forward to great jeep track and gravel routes - a true challenge offering
great history and fantastic local hospitality. Water points will be available with local snacks and great drinks.
There will be plenty photo opportunities and fantastic views. Finish off the day with a great live show by Jakkie
Louw, cold beers and great food.


Stage 3


Sunday 28 April, 08:00
Distance: 40km
Stage 3 consists of jeep tracks, single tracks and gravel roads. Riders can look forward to cycling through the
botanical gardens, wild flower area and beautiful surroundings.
