Darling Brew Extreme
We offer the routes, you create the experience!
DBX is one of the most anticipated single-day MTB races in the Western Cape, featuring a variety of epic routes beginning and ending at Darling Brew. Each year, we offer Mountain Bike enthusiasts the opportunity to cycle beautiful and otherwise inaccessible routes around the West Coast hamlet of Darling at their own time and pace.
DBX truly has something for everyone, from experienced MTB riders to novices and youngsters. Additionally, the event hosts and sponsors band together to bring riders and spectators alike a day to remember, with live music, good eats and treats available in family-friendly surroundings at the Darling Brew Tasteroom, as well as the opportunity to taste the wide range of Darling Brew crafts beers and beverages.

START & FINISH:
*Due to COVID19 we are following a self-starting race format, where racers will begin at different time slots and each individual will be timed at their own accord*
Darling Brew Extreme 2021 will be opening self-starts for this event between 07:00 - 09:00. However, the Warlord 80km, Bone Crusher 60km, and Long Claw 60km e-bike will have a limited time frame to start due to the long distance – these riders will only be able to start between 07:00 - 08:00. The Light Lager 40km and Slow Beer 20km riders can start between 08:00 - 09:00.
Race Finishers will receive a 330ml DB Light Lager for over 18s only OR a DBzero Apple Bomb PLUS the ever-so-popular DBX2021 finishers glass.
The Tasteroom will be open but booking is advised. Mobile coffee, beer, and food will be available for quick and easy access all day. Darling Brew Extreme 2021 Results and Event Photos will be added to DBX Entry Ninja and Facebook Events as well as our DBX page (see below).
There is a very limited amount of entry tickets available for Darling Brew Extreme 2021.
THE FIRST 100 ENTRIES WILL QUALIFY FOR A 10% EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT!
Please note that there will be no refunds available for this event after 1st August 2021.
IMPORTANT: Merchandise will be added to both the Entry Nina portal and the #DBshop for riders to purchase at a later stage. As such, you can check out your early bird ticket now and buy merch and beer later OR add a ticket to your cart on Entry Ninja to reserve your spot and wait for our merch to be released before making your purchase (in which case the early-bird rate may not apply).
Due to the popularity of the annual DBX, tickets sell out within the first month and the amount of available tickets will not be increased due to Covid-19 restrictions - so don't delay on entering, secure your spot!
The basic cycling rules still apply. Wear a helmet, keep your distance and look out for other riders.
Please note there will be fully supported Water Points per route but no spectators or route support will be allowed. Riders under the age of 12 require parental supervision. There will not be any assistance on the route, so please follow the route signs and cross roads safely.
All routes will be clearly marked and riders will receive the GPS files for the specific route they have entered. Make sure you load the route file onto your device. If you get lost, return to the previous route sign and continue from there.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: At this time of year, there are loads of thorns in the Darling area. Please ensure you do not ride without sludge in your tyres.
Due to the turbulent nature of the COVID19 pandemic, all participants need to follow our social media pages closely for regular updates regarding race-day protocol and potential postponements.
Entrants can choose their challenge, with routes ranging from a scenic trail in and around the quaint town of Darling to an epic endurance run which follows cattle trails, jeep tracks, and farm roads that take you through beautiful vineyards, olive orchards, and fynbos trails.
🐢 Slow Beer - 20km | R 200
Slow Beer is our DBX2021 beginner's and family-friendly 20km route. This short route will still take you onto the trails and get you sweating, but can still be fun for the whole family to enjoy.
🦎 Light Lager - 40 km | R 250
Light Lager is our 40km route which requires a reasonable amount of fitness, recommended for our brave novices, trail enthusiasts, and those working towards the more challenging routes. Expect some beautiful views along this ride!
☠️ Bone Crusher + 🦁 Long Claw (E-bike) - 60 km | R 350
Long Claw (E-bike) and Bone Crusher follow the same classic 60km that make sure you see Darling from every angle and give participants access to private farmlands, reserves, and mountains that are not always accessible to the public.
🦏 Warlord - 80km | R 400
Warlord is the BIG oke. This route has some serious climbs, single tracks, and spectacular scenery. It will test and delight you in equal measures.
We hope the bikes are in good condition and the e-bike guys are fully charged! Pick your route and join us at the DBX2021 to make it another memorable event on your MTB calendar.
Please note the #DBX2021 routes as you see them here are our top choices. However, since these races take place in nature, things may change in the lead-up to race day. Rain may damage certain parts of a trail, or a landowner may need to alter a route to address the needs of his farm. We're staying nimble and will inform you if anything changes.
