Meet Harry Dare

In this installment of our Meet the #DBcrew series, we're proud to introduce Harry Dare, National Sales & Marketing Manager at Darling Brew since May 2021. 

"I've enjoyed looking after the sales and marketing function for Darling Brew on a national basis thoroughly so far. From a team cohesion point of view, a lot of credit is due to MD Tewie Roos. It's a fantastic group of people I'm working with, the management team and the rest of the staff. There is a great vibe, and everyone is at the top of their game," says Harry.

Harry has been working in the liquor trade for over 25 years, most recently as a consultant to the industry and prior to that as marketing director for DGB, and has looked after International brands like Jägermeister, Veuve Cliquot and Jim Beam, and was responsible for creating brands like Po10c, Tang Sour Apple, and Zappa Sambuca.

Harry cut his teeth in door-to-door sales at the outset of his career, which was a great foundation in the sales environment. After that, he joined multinationals and spent time working for Gilette and Kimberly-Clark, before joining DGB to work on the International portfolio and the development of local brands. Currently based in Johannesburg, Harry and his family look forward to making a move down to the West Coast soonest.

"When Tewie suggested that I make a move to join the team on the West Coast, my answer, and that of my family, was a resounding yes! My son is finishing Grade 12 this year, and as soon as that is done, we will start the process of moving down. It's going be a great new adventure for the family," Harry enthuses.

"I can't wait to be based at the brewery and interact with my colleagues on a daily basis as opposed to video conferencing the whole time. This one-on-one interaction and personal involvement really make all the difference in what I am able to achieve and facilitate as National Sales & Marketing Manager."

Harry says that one of the stand-out reasons why he decided to make the move to join the DB crew was the premium image and consistency of the Darling Brew portfolio.

"I personally love the Warlord and Longclaw, but quite frankly I think that all of the beers are quite spectacular. It's a great-looking portfolio of products, with some fantastic support material. All of which contributes to building a strong brand.

"We currently have plans for a number of fabulous additions to the product portfolio, with a few interesting surprises, it’s going to be great fun putting these together. Right now, the latest additions to the JUST family, JUST RIGHT and JUST NAKED, are hugely exciting, and “just” around the corner! The launch of this premium beer family is set to be a gamechanger in terms of market share for Darling Brew," says Harry.

In his free time, this go-getter loves playing and watching sport. He has run 35 marathons over the years, including the Comrades and Two Oceans, and also did a stint with Radio 702 as one of their sports presenters.

"With the move down to the Western Cape now imminent, I might now have to look at switching allegiance and becoming a Province/Stormers supporter. Fortunately, I think I'll look great in blue and white stripes," he quips.

We are looking forward to having Harry around in the flesh, but in the meantime, his remote contribution has been invaluable to our team. Here's to many more years of taking the Darling Brew brand onwards and upwards 🍻
