Darling Brew takes 4 awards at the 2022 African Beer Cup!

It is our pleasure to announce that Darling Brew has been awarded four medals at the 2022 African Beer Cup. The African Beer Cup is an annual event seeking out the best craft beers on the African continent. The competition is open to licensed, commercial breweries large and small, on the condition that the beers entered were brewed in Africa. Entries are double judged by handpicked qualified judges and industry experts according to the stringent 2015 BJCP Guidelines.

Judges from 16 different countries evaluated the 251 entries over three days. In the end, 10 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 27 bronze medals were awarded across 32 different categories.

These awards are a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, especially our talented brewers who created these exceptional beers. Here's to the craftsmanship, time, and sincere love of small-batch brewing that went into the Darling Brew beers that received a tip of the hat from the judges. This includes:

Darling Brew Arrowhead

GOLD (Russian Imperial Stout)

Arrowhead is a near-black Russian Imperial Stout infused with Madagascar bourbon vanilla, smooth coffee, and hints of dark chocolate. Experience a truly unique flavour from the sweet malts and warming alcohol with just a touch of hoppy bitterness. Please note that our latest Arrowhead is currently in the tank waiting to be bottled for you, so you can secure your selection of our “black gold” by ordering in advance from our online store.

Darling Brew Pixie Dust

SILVER (German Wheat Beer)

Pixie Dust is a Golden Weiss with a citrusy hop, yeasty smooth mouthfeel, and mild bitterness, hinting at fruity and spicy flavours while remaining very slightly sweet. Aromas are a balance of clove and banana. Golden in colour with a cloudy, tight foam, Pixie Dust is the perfect thirst-quencher for the warm summer months, and available seasonally. 

Darling Brew Warlord

SILVER  (Strong American Ale)

The Warlord is a beer that means business. High in hop flavours. Guava and lychee, grapefruit, pine. and a hint of florals. The 9% alcohol leaves the drinker with a warming feeling. A mild, well-rounded bitterness for the style, and elegantly balanced, with a full mouthfeel, but not quite as heavy as one would expect.

Darling Brew Gypsy Mask

SILVER (Native Ale)

Gypsy Mask is a strikingly beautiful, incredibly smooth rusty red ale full of flavour - spicy hops balanced with malty sweetness and a fruity aroma. Exceptionally smooth with a low bitterness, it is a gorgeous all-season ale.

It is also worth noting that each of the beers that took a silver award placed at the top of its category, so essentially this equates to four first places. Most of these award-winning beers are available for purchase from our online store and can also be sampled in person at our DB Tasterooms in Woodstock, Darling, and Bethlehem.
