Pearl Rose is an easy drinking grapefruit-infused pale ale, bursting with fresh fruity aromas and flavours. A true feast for your senses. A collaborative brew with Riot Beer, the beer has a light body and a minimal sweetness to balance it off with natural grapefruit extract. A medium to low bitterness with a subtle grapefruit and citrus hop flavour, especially in the aftertaste. Hop aromas are predominantly citrus, with a pine/resin background and a subtle grapefruit aroma.
With natural grapefruit extract, Pearl Rose not only packs a flavourful punch but also brings you some of the health benefits of the grapefruit. Grapefruit contains bioflavonoids and other plant chemicals that protect against serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, and the formation of tumours. Grapefruit is great for treating indigestion, reducing fatigue and promoting sleep and has also been known to be used as an aphrodisiac. (Hint hint, nudge nudge – how about that Valentine's Day gift?)
Pearl Rose is inspired by the greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus). The greater flamingo is instantly recognizable due to its colourful pink plumage, contrasting red shoulders and long, thin neck and legs. They are the most widespread species of the flamingo family found in Africa. Their current threats include pollution, lead poisoning and habitat loss due to harbour and industrial development or drainage of wetlands for agriculture.
With Pearl Rose we have made a departure from our use of animal graphics on our labels to that of a more textural focus. The pearl rose label looks specifically to the distinct colourful and contrasting plumage of the greater flamingo.
With the very real global threat of climate change and habitat destruction, the world is in great need of more balance and nurture. In popular culture, Flamingos have come to symbolize grace, beauty, balance and femininity – traits which could very much assist us in strengthening our resilience and action against the current situation in which we find ourselves.
In 2018 we aim to draw attention to some of the female strengths in the animal kingdom to highlight how this focus could help us address some of our greatest problems in today’s modern society.
